He served first as a private and then as
corporal with the Lincoln County militia, Col. William
Graham's regiment, prior to the war in expeditions against
the Cherokee.287 He re-enlisted in 1779,
and was promoted to captain, again serving under Col.
William Graham.287,279 He fought at the battle
of Cedar Springs and at King's Mountain where his elbow was
shattered by a musket ball.287 He received an award
from the Lincoln County Court of Pleas and Quarter sessions
for his services, and as pension for his wound.121
He wrote his will just three days before his death. |
