Minnie was deaf from birth.40 (She had a twin brother
Willie, who could hear, but he was always frail and died at
age seven.) She attended the Governor Morehead School for
the Deaf, Dumb and Blind from 1872 - 1881. She died due to
childbirth complications about a month after her son Bill
was born.
Supposedly the night that she died she suddenly started
signing "beautiful, beautiful" and died a few hours
later.405
