In Jacob Carpenter's will , he directs his son Joseph to "maintain his Mother" as long as she remains Jacob's widow (i.e., unless she remarries). Jacob also left Anna three hundred dollars, furniture, two cows and two hogs, and the garden and orchard "during her widowhood".120
