| Notes for John Yost | ||||||||||||||
| John came to this country at age 15 in the
hopes of finding his uncle Jacob who had offered to help
him find work. It is not known whether he found him. He
left Germany to escape the draft during the Prussian-German
wars. He married Melinda Denning in 1879427. Melinda already had a young daughter, Leona (born out of wedlock) who John came to claim as his own.425 They had six more children together. He worked at a grain mill powered by a water wheel on the Delaware River near Perry in Jefferson County, Kansas425. He died young, probably from tuberculosis, though another family story suggests appendicitis425. He died in late 1892425, before the birth of his son Leonard. Read more about the Yost family. |
