He was of Welsh descent. In 1920 he was an
investment banker in California178, though by 1930 (after
the stock market crash), he was the supervisor of logging
sales at a tractor manufactoring company.179 Possibly around the 40s
they moved to upstate New York, where James ran a
vineyard.
