In 1782 Samuel was listed in the same "Company" (or district) as his father Hugh, Captain William Bell's. He had 200 acres entered (granted) by him, along with 1 Negro, 2 horses, 4 cattle, and 90 pounds.^{415, p.178}

In the 1787 tax list he is listed as a 28 year old white male with four white females living with him, ages 24, 6, 4, and 2.⁴⁰⁷
