| Notes for William J. Estes |
William Estes appears to have suffered from
wanderlust. He was apparently born in Tennessee, but his
family moved to what would become eastern Missouri in the
early days of the Lousiana Purchase, probably around 1805.
As an adult he lived in St. Francois County, Missouri;
Wahington County, Arkansas; Carroll County, Arkansas; St.
Francois County, Missouri 193again; Shannon County,
Missouri192;
and Stone County, Missouri196.
In 1859, William J. Estes purchased a land grant for the
west half of the Southeast quarter of Section 25, Township
27N, Range 5W in Shannon County, Missouri. According to his
land patent, prior to the purchase he was living in Oregon
County, Missouri.306,
William J. Estes, 1 September 1859, certificate no. 30352,
accession no. MO3910_.454 On the same date,
William J. Estes, Jr., also of Oregon County, purchased an
adjoining lot.306,
