Notes for William Orange
William and his younger brother Benjamin came to America from England during the spring of 1820 (sometime between 1 April and 30 June). They traveled on the Ship Tontine, E. Turley, Master, and landed in Philadelphia.333 It seems as though he married his wife sometime after his arrival in America, though she was also born in England. His eldest daughter was born in Illinois around 1827, and the rest of his children were born in Ohio beginning in 1830.332 Benjamin and William both settled in Hamilton County, Ohio, though Benjamin lived in Cincinnati, while William lived in Millcreek Township.

In the 1831 city directory for Cincinnati, William is listed as a manufacturor of mattresses and an outfitter of steamboats. In the 1840 directory, both William and his brother Benjamin are listed as upholsterers.335

He is listed as one of the Cincinnati Fire Guards in 1841, according to a history of Cincinnati.339

According to the 1850 census William was a farmer with $20,000 worth of real estate, making him very well-off for his time.332 By 1860 he had $50,000.336

According to the records at the cemetery he died at the Orange Homestead which was in the town of Mt. Harrison

From 1853 to 1858 he served on the Board of Directors of Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum, where he was later buried. His body was moved from section 47, lot 30 to section 22, lot 40, which his wife purchased a few years after his death.337, card no. 10456
