The Will of Jacob Carpenter
dated 31 December 1839
In the name of God Amen, I Jacob Carpenter of the County of Lincoln and the State of North Carolina Being Sick but of sound mind and understanding where it is tuching such mortally Estates as God hath blest me in this life I give and dispose of the same in the following manner. to wit,
I give unto Anna my wife three Hundred Dollars and my old directing? house kitching and firniture. and all that in them is Beds Chest Table and Bureau also I give unto Anna my wife two Cows and two Shape and two hogs I also give unto Anna my wife my garden and orchard during her widowhood
I also give unto my daughter Nancy Jinkins ten dollars
I also give unto my daughter Margaret Mauney ten dollars
I give unto my daughter Barbara ten dollars
I give unto my daughter Elizabeth fifty dollars
I give unto my daughter Mary ten dollars
I give unto my son Jacob ten dollars

I give unto my son Lawson ten dollars
I give unto my son Joseph my Land. the old tract I now live on, I give unto my son Joseph. three Hundred and Fifty Dollars and horse Saddle and Bridle, and two Cows and Calfs two Sheep two hogs and also choice waggon and two pair of geers and likewise my still and Vessels and my Black smith tools, and ??? Chaise plow and hoes, and Joseph is to maintain his Mother as long as she remine my widow, of the Land.
I give unto my Daughter Anna Black ten dollars
I give unto my Daughter Susanna one Negro girl Visey and thirty Dollars and horse Saddle and bridle, two Cows and Calfs two sheep and two hogs and two beds and Stids and one Beaureau
I give unto my Daughter Caty one Negro boy Liney and fifty Dollars in money two Beds two cows and Calfs two sheep two hogs and one Bureau and the rest of the property that is not with are to be sold and an Equal Divide made Between my heirs here after named to wit Nancy, Margaret Barbara Mary and Jacob Sally and Lawson Wiley Anna Joseph Susanna and Caty and my will is that there is one years support left and laid by for my wife and Children
I likewise do say that this be my Last will and testament I likewise ordain my Son Jacob Carpenter and Samuel Black executors of this my last will & Testament firstly by these prestente in witness where of I have here unto set my hand and seal this 31st Day of December 1839
